Defense Boost

The defense boost, or the shield boost, activates a shield around the player and "reduces the damage dealt by enemies".

It is not a commonly used boost as one should dodge enemy fire rather than to endure it. But one may use a defense boost when surrounded by mutants. In free-for-all deathmatch, a player always respawns with a shield activated. This does not consume their stock of defense boosts.
